TRAINING DAY(S)

Operations were put on hold for three days from November 10 – 12, 2012 as workers at Accuworx Inc. engaged in high level vacuum and high pressure wash training at their facility in Brampton, Ontario.  With a stern focus on safe operating procedures, Accuworx workers had their first opportunity to test out the functionality of the newly designed and exclusive Accuworx Inc. training simulator.  The simulator was designed in house and took into consideration the years of gained knowledge and experiences of Accuworx field workers, to resemble field conditions to the greatest extent possible.  The simulator added a practical element to the advanced vacuum and high pressure wash theory aspect of the training and allowed the workers to directly apply the innovative vacuum and high pressure wash technologies which were the subject of the theoretical portion of the training.

In a field where personal protective equipment is often the best and only choice to protect workers from harm, workers were provided the opportunity to use technologically advanced engineering controls and administrative procedures that are specifically designed to eliminate operational hazards.  In three days workers were provided with a wealth of knowledge that will benefit them indefinitely during workplace activities.

Accuworx Responds to Mystery Spill

The Accuworx spill response team was activated for a mystery spill. The unknown substance coated 1.3 km of a creek through a large city. The pH of the creek approached 10.5 and a substantial fish kill ensued. The crew quickly deployed silt control measures and began setup of their unique sediment control pump and treat system. The crew activities included power washing of the spillway, moling of 1|2 km of storm water lines and air lancing of the creek bottom. The treatment system was fed by our 6400 cfm vac truck that pressured off into a settling tank. The treatment system ran at 150 gpm and removed sediment down to 0.5 micron before returning the water to the creek. This process saved the client a considerable amount of transport and disposal cost. Stakeholders on site included MOE and Regional representatives.
All fish were removed, the creek re balanced and the park returned to its original state.

Accuworx sends 2 of its GUZZLER'S for Carbon Clean up

Last week Accuworx was called into North Toronto to vacuum out Carbon Media from 2 Scrubber Units.  The two Guzzler manufactured trucks were more than capable of vacuuming the very dusty material into its tanks.  Accuworx has a sole sourced company for Carbon Regeneration and in turn has recycled what was assumed waste by the client.

Accuworx called in for Critical by-pass at Toronto Island Tunnel Construction

Accuworx performed a critical by-pass of wastewater for a contractor working for the City of Toronto last week. The current contractor is machine drilling a tunnel from the main land to Toronto's island airport. The wastewater pipe was cut, and redirected for the tunnel boring machine to perform its work. Accuworxs' 40,000 Liter Stainless Steel Tanker and 6400 cfm Turbo vac took care of the wastewater flow and redirected it to another sewer. The new pipe was installed and things are back up and running.

Accuworx Response Team Cleaning up the Shores of Terrace Bay, Ontario

Accuworx's Environmental Response team has been hard at work in Terrace Bay, Ontario. Accuworx's new asset, Marine One, and its response team have been cleaning up a spill from an older train derailment in the area. The plastic media has contaminated shore line and has endangered wild life in the area. Where other contractors have failed, Accuworx's unique equipment and techniques have produced massive headways in the project. It is estimated that thing's should be wrapped up in about 4 weeks time.

Accuworx responds to flooded Union Station in Toronto

Accuworx crews were called out Friday evening to respond to flooding in Toronto's Union Station. Massive amounts of rain (more than 50mm) fell in a short period of time. The city's infrastructure was unable to handle the heavy rain fall, causing massive floods and back ups through out the City. All surfaces are being cleaned, vacuumed and disinfected. Accuworx crews have tirelessly worked around the clock in hopes of having the station in full operation for the Monday morning rush hour.

Accuworx Responds to Open Water Spill

The Accuworx Open water spill response team was activated last week to assist in the recovery of a hydraulic oil release into  the French River. Accuworx responded to the incident with their river boom deployment boat, 1000 feet of river boom, multiple vac trucks and crew. The condition of the river was a concern, as river currents were very strong. Successful booming of the impact was achieved after securing an ice covered bay for the site of product recovery.  Ice was broken up with use of prop wash and picks. Weather conditions were into the -20C region. Full survival suits and PPE were worn to ensure the safety of the crew. Product recovery was made difficult due to the high lift required by the vac truck. The rock face was a 200 foot vertical lift and another 100 foot horizontal pull. The 6400 cfm Accuworx Super Vac achieved recovery while maintaining no frozen hoses thanks to a few of the crews cold water vac tricks. The recovery was a success. Multiple bags of impacted ice and  18000L of impacted water was recovered. The river was returned to its natural state and a timely demob ensued.
