Emergency Response to a River Spill

A large fuel oil spill into Toronto’s West Don River activated Accuworx ER assets as we were hired to respond, contain and remediate the spill.  Kevin Solski, Accuworx Corporate Health and Safety Manager, was instrumental in liasoning with all relevant authorities and ensuring that all our crew worked safely.  Kevin is the former EHS Manager of Auburn Industrial (an international service provider in the Mining industry) and holds a degree of Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Health and Safety from Ryerson University.

Due to the West Don River experiencing swift river currents during the clean up operations and the fluctuating water levels that are taking place, Kevin developed policies and procedures in conjunction with the Ministry of Labour that facilitated our employees to safely recover the fuel oil from the river and also clean the contaminated vegetation on the shoreline.

Reducing Costs Using Centrifuge Technology

We were recently called in by an industrial client to de-water a waste storage lagoon onsite using centrifuge technology.  Rob Malda, Accuworx Business Manager and formerly Manager of Terratec Environmental/American Water, brought his 15 years of experience into this job.  Rob arranged for a full audit of the customer’s requirements, took sludge samples for polymer assessment, estimated the quantity of sludge to be extracted, and arranged for the job area and work schedule for the project.

One of the greatest advantages of using centrifuge technology for de-watering residual waste lagoons is that it allows the client to dramatically reduce the costs of transportation and disposal.  Mobile treatment systems are a specialty of Accuworx.  Learn more about our waste minimization technologies and industrial cleaning services here.
